Going for a desktop. The local computer-pusher sells a lot of AMD based CPUs. Are they to be trusted?

AMD is fine yea. It's usually the preferred CPU type for budget PC's since they tend to be a bit cheaper.

I just upgraded to the Ryzen 5 2600x on an Asus Rog Strix B350-F, seems to be working fine for me. Tho, beware, not all of those (B350s) may have updated bios' to support 2x series cpus or whatever
Strictly speaking, they recommend 4something chipsets (x470?) for the cpu, but I'm not made of cash, and didn't feel I needed the extras, so since (atleast updated) B350s supported it, I went with that. The Asus one has RGB lighting as well, which helped ;p
Just make sure the mobo supports the cpu and the ram speed you're getting :<
My previous AMD (and FX) was a giant annoyance, ran super hot, but the Ryzen seems smooth so far. Can SimCraft while ingame np, if I don't sim with weights it's ~instant :D (The FX was not at all :p)

I had to phone a specialised PC building company and speak with a sales rep for some time before getting somewhat straightened out.

Probably buying an AMD 2600X with an MSI B450 motherboard, 16 GB RAM and 500 GB SSD (also a HDD and Blue-ray/DVD). All built into a cabinet with a cooler and power supply geared towards running fairly silent. I’ll be reusing my 960 GTX and my monitor, so WoW will run in 1080p.

I picked the new machine up yesterday, going to install stuff tomorrow.

This machine is HUGE! There is so much space inside the cabinet. Which is a good thing, because the CPU cooler is the size of a small house.

Also, this is my first computer with actual noise reduction padding on the inside of the cabinet. I can't wait to start it up.

Before shutting my old unit down, I decided to find out exactly which CPU I had in that machine. It's an Intel i7 920, introduced in 2008(!). I bought it in 2009, as a complete desktop. I've since changed power supply, RAM and GPU. But the CPU, motherboard, cabinet and HDD are the same. All 9 years old.

That old machine is almost older than my stepson.

It's still called i5, i7, i9 tho, so can't really go by that.. heckin' confusing to say the least :< And Intel still has Pentium and Celeron and even other CPU's. Confusing imo.
But yeah, Paw, you're gonna LOVE a spacious cabinet, as long as you have the room for it. I thought I was safe with a tower, but even still I've cursed alot upgrading over the summer, putting in fans, cables, and whatnot, while trying to hide as much as possible :p
Post a pic of the final build when your done, curious to see how it looks! :D

My impression after a few days:
- Full boot up to Win 10 is done in 27 sec. Full boot up with WoW (as in, the character is loaded and playable) is also 27 sec. SSD is a good thing.
- I can not hear if the machine is turned on.
- 60 FPS consistently is not an issue anymore.
- Razer software is still shit.

It all sounds good, apart from 27 seconds full boot.... Going to check mine now!
