Don't you work in the fruit and veg section at co-op? It's the root of the potato plant which we eat. Anything with pips/seeds/stones whatever you fancy calling them are fruits. In fact a lot of things we'd call fruits are berries and the opposite applies. I suspect we'd all call watermelons and bananas fruit but those are actually berries whereas strawberries and blackberries are both fruits.
