In preparation for the launch of World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade we will be retrofitting existing realms with new hardware over the next month or so. As soon as the realm hardware upgrades are installed you will notice improvements on realms experiencing performance issues due to instance load. Further improvements will be felt when we activate the backend hardware upgrades, most likely a few weeks later.
Maintenance periods may be extended for those realms receiving upgrades.
