Hi guys I've been offered one of these from a mate for £100 hardly used is it worth it? I'm currently using an old 8800gtx nvidia

nope, not worth it. that thing is 4 or 5 generations old. you can get a new card for half that price with better performance.

It's not a bad card and I don't think you get anything faster for that price but there are many downsides.
- Only DX 10.1 (And DX11 can give quite some performance)
- Extremly power hungry
You'd do better with a card like

It takes much less energy (and so you pay much less for energy)
Furthermore the card should be faster than the GTX285 and you can overclock the HD7850 to the rates of the HD7870, which provides even more power.
