as some of you already know, i've moved into a house in Ormskirk with 3 other students n we've had Tiscali broadband put in.
the other 3 housemates use wireless connections, but because i wanted to play WoW on my computer I bought a network cable so mines connected through that.
Thing is though, apparently we get 8meg broadband, yet it's really unpredictable, I often go from having ~60ms to ~2k+ in a matter of minutes - and its not just my wow connection that suffers, web browsers and things like msn get really slow and DC a lot too. The other 3 living with me agree that its really usntable too, so its not just my computer :<
Anyone know how I can sort this and/or give things to try out to improve it?

Probably shit wiring to the BT box in the street. Or incorrect ADSL filter use.

Try dialing 17070 on your phone and do a silent line test. You may have tons of noise on your phone line. :p

Yea what Jai said, usually you can call your ISP and let them perform a remote test, did that with my parents anyways.

Make sure you plug the microfilter into the master socket (Take the small faceplate off the bottom of the main one to find the master socket). Login to your router and check your up / down speed. Make sure phone extensions arent greater than 6 ft. Usual stuff to check really.

ive only had it a month n im on a 12month contract :<

+ it has a dl limit, which is gonna suck for 4 people running on it together, not to mention the fact that its more expensive AND requires a one off installation payment, we're all students n dont all wanna be paying shitloads for internet :<

edit: on the Zen website it states this
"Fluctuation in line speed is expected to occur within the first 10 days of service whilst your line speed adapts to the maximum it can reliably support."

would this be true for Tiscali internet too? if so then this may be the case for now, and i might be better off waiting it out for a couple of days

Yes, it could be. Keep hassling them about it.

I know Zen is more expensive; like everything in this world, you get what you pay for.

Bonem8,

I cannot believe how incredibly stupid you are. I mean rock-hard stupid. Dehydrated-rock-hard stupid. World-class, A-1, top of the heap, triple whopper with cheese, supersized stupid.
So stupid that it goes way beyond the stupid we know into a whole different dimension of stupid. One-of-a-kind, global, universal, intergalactic stupid. You are trans-stupid stupid. Meta-stupid. Stupid collapsed on itself so far that even the neutrons have collapsed. Stupid so dense that no intellect can escape. Singularly, extraordinarily, incredibly, bewilderingly stupid. Blazing hot mid-day sun on Mercury stupid. You emit more stupid in one second than our entire galaxy emits in a year. Quasar stupid. Your life is a monument to stupidity.
I am breathless that anyone or anything in our universe can really be this stupid. You are a primordial fragment from the original big bang of stupid. Some pure essence of a stupid so uncontaminated by anything else as to be beyond the laws of stupidity that we know. A behemoth, a leviathan, a colossus of stupidity.

Sincerely,
Bunny
